Description:
For sale here is a 1962 Ramirez III Classical Guitar. This is a fascinating instrument, showing some of the early innovations of Jose Ramirez III to dramatically increase the volume of the classical guitar. It is still in spruce, pre-dating Ramirez move later to cedar. The guitar has the Ramirez lengthened scale length of 664mm, but still has the standard nut width of 52mm. Innovations that were to come later in Ramirez III’s journey – cedar sound boards, a larger guitar body, wider necks at 54mm, bass side neck relief, ebony reinforcement in the neck, and last of all, the da Camara.
The maker’s mark on the heel of the guitar is “F.M”, Felix Manzanero, who worked then at the Ramirez workshop, and went on later to have a celebrated career as an independent luthier.
The guitar pre-dates when Ramirez began issuing serial numbers. It also has a gold label from the time when Ramirez was transitioning to their sky blue labels, and guitars from that time have either one or the other with no underlying significance. It is made with beautifully figured CSA Rosewood, with two stabilized and externally invisible cracks in the back.
To learn more about Jose Ramirez III there is further information on the Ramirez site in their section on guitar history and also in wikipedia, under Jose Ramirez III (luthier)
