Description:
This is a 2013 Tobias Braun Guitar. The instrument is made of a spruce soundboard with satinwood back and sides. Satinwood is a dense tone wood, similar to rosewood, but is a difficult wood to work, and it was last commonly used by Simplicio. Tobias Braun is one of very few makers today who is able to make guitars in this special, beautiful wood. The wood in addition to its tonality has a depth and pearlescence in its appearance. The volume of the guitar is moderate and its tone is often described by listeners as friendly, even happy. Hearkening back to an older time, when the guitar was a salon instrument, this guitar is designed to be intimate instead of loud.
Tobias Braun lives and has his workshop in the picturesque small town of Gaaden in the Vienna woods in Austria. He learned guitar making in part from Jose Romanillos and is inspired particularly by instruments made in the period of Manuel Ramirez’s workshop, particularly those of Santos Hernandez, who was a member of that shop.
