Description:
Here is a beautiful example of a 1948 Jose Ramirez II Classical Guitar, from one of the most rare periods. Jose Ramirez II was an important maker, filling the gap following the devastation of World War II. His instruments are warm, competent and they are the precursor to the larger more powerful instruments of his son, Jose Ramirez III, who conceived the ambition that the sound of the guitar should fill concert halls, and who eventually became the maker for Segovia. This was the foundation on which Jose Ramirez III built.
This guitar shows some of the desperation of the years immediately following the war, when materials were in short supply. But even then, there were those who sought solace in guitar music, and someone who commissioned Jose Ramirez II to make this beautiful instrument with is striking wood grain. It is a very rare example of a guitar built in the late 1940’s, as very few instruments were built then and still fewer survive. This one is in excellent condition, as well, with no cracks. The tuners which were badly deteriorated and were inoperable have been updated with modern Gotoh tuners.
